An XLR Disc is a type of Nerf disc and ammunition that was released in 2011 under the Vortex series.
Details[]
XLR Discs are a disc-style ammunition that are thicker and heavier than "classic discs." Made of EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) plastic, the difference in size makes them not only more suited for firing distance than the thinner, flimsy discs, but able to bounce and ricochet off of surfaces for trick shots. If the discs are wet when fired, they become far more inaccurate than normal, and "wobble" through the air rather than a steady glide.
Unlike other ammunition types like arrows or darts, XLR Discs more often require a flat firing angle for max range, as their ability to glide due to their shape is what helps achieve their intended firing distances. In turn, XLR Discs do not fire as fast as darts, making them easier to dodge.
When fired from XLR Disc blasters, they have a tendency to curve through the air, thanks to the Magnus effect. A disc spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise will bend either right or left, respectively.
History[]
The XLR Disc is the successor to Nerf's original foam disk design. Nerf experimented with about fifty different disc designs before settling on the current one.
To help promote the then-upcoming Vortex series, one XLR Disc came packaged with N-Strike Gear Up blasters, along with a code that provided a sneek peak at a particular Vortex blaster.
The Zombie Strike series released XLR Disc blasters in 2014 - the Ricochet, Ripshot, and Fusefire. The ammunition was discontinued for four years after then, but was revived for the 2018 Vortex VTX sub-series.
Variants[]
A special glow-in-the-dark variant of the XLR Disc was packaged with the Lumitron and the Fusefire. These discs were able to glow when charged up in either the Fusefire or the Firefly Tech magazine; they will not be able to glow if used in the other magazine types.

Modification[]
One simple modification used by few Nerfers is to tape a BB pellet into onto the bottom of the XLR Disc. This gives it more momentum when fired, making it spin faster and thus more efficiently.
