For starters, it is important to recognize Hasbro's past attempts at combining blasters and technology. Three times they have tried to bring Lazer Tag to the market. The latest, known as Lazer Tag Augmented Reality, released around 2013 hardly made blip on the radar. (due in part to poor marketing in my opinion) I once saw them on clearance at ToyRUs for $10 and there was a palette full of them.
Then Tek Recon comes to the market and there is the sudden threat of competition. In an attempt to retain their already massive market share, they develop a similar system and presented it twice, both in 2014 and 2015. But then what happened? Tek Recon faded away and with it, most of the reason to continue development of TekStrike.
Technology isn't cheap to develop nor manufacture. The last thing they wanted was two failed smartphone based systems within a few years of each other. Come 2016 and Nerf decides to focus on other lines such as Accustrike instead, a much safer bet. In short, don't expect TekStrike anytime soon, I'm afraid it's been indefinitely shelved.
