The SledgeFire is a Nerf blaster that was released in 2013 under the Zombie Strike series.

Included contents[]

Details[]

The SledgeFire is a multi-shot blaster that uses three-dart shells. These shells are loaded through a break-action function, by pulling on a hammer-like switch on the read of the blaster and manually pulling down the front half of the blaster. This both reveals the loading port for the shells and primes the blaster for use. If a shell is already in the SledgeFire when it's broken open, a spring-loaded ejector will eject the shell out automatically, though not completely, like various Buzz Bee shell-compatible blasters.

It features an integrated shoulder stock, where three additional shells can be stored. Storing shells in the stock locks them into place, so they don't fall out when the blaster is in use. A tactical rail sits atop the blaster. There are also two strap points: one above the muzzle and one built into the shoulder stock.

Official description[]

History[]

In August of 2015, an image of a prototype SledgeFire was discovered. This version of the blaster was known as the Boomer Nova and had a few differences between it and the final version of the blaster. Rather than a Zombie Strike logo, it bears one for a "Zombie Hunter" series, suggesting that Zombie Strike may have been once known as Zombie Hunter. The shoulder stock was different, with its stored shells collapsed against the bottom of the stock.

Modification[]

The SledgeFire features a direct plunger system. The blaster uses air restrictors that have one prong rather than three. This is so that there is increased air flow on the darts.

Common modifications to it include the removal of the shoulder stock and converting the blaster to be rear-loading, rather than break-action. The stock can be made removable by removing enough material on its attachment point so that the stock can fit securely with friction, but can also be removed by pulling on it. The ejector spring in the front half of the blaster can be replaced with a stronger one, or moved to a different post to put it under more tension, allowing shells to eject once spent. This makes reloads faster but increases the likelihood of losing shells.

There have been many 3D printed shells compatible with the SledgeFire that allow it to fire other forms of ammunition such as Mega Darts, requiring little or no modification of the blaster itself.

Trivia[]

  • Due to its break-action loading style, the SledgeFire can be thought of as a successor to the N-Strike Barrel Break IX-2.
  • It shares a visual detail with the Z-Bat, in the form of tally marks pre-marked into the blaster's shell.
  • On the updated SledgeFire's packaging, the darts coming out of the blaster are shown with a white and green color scheme. This color scheme is similar to that of the much later-introduced Star Wars GlowStrike Darts.
  • The SledgeFire can be partially primed if the barrel is not broken all the way. However, this will weaken its power, and not opening the barrel fully will make it hard to reload.
  • Stock images of the SledgeFire show loaded darts sticking out of the shells. In reality, the darts should sit flush with the top of the shell.
