The Proximity Barrel is a Nerf barrel extension that was released in fall of 2015 under the N-Strike Modulus series.
It comes packaged in the Stealth Ops Upgrade Kit, the Stryfe CQ-10, the BattleCamo Series Stryfe, the Recon MKIII, the Lock 'n Load Pack, and the Stormcharge; it can also be purchased separately through Amazon.
Details[]
The Proximity Barrel is a small barrel extension that resembles a real-life flash hider or muzzle brake. Despite this, it does not actually do anything to the blaster it is equipped to. A series of small holes are seen alongside the side which serve only for aesthetic purpose; the holes have no way to actually touch any darts passing through the barrel. The inside features rifling parallel with the length of the barrel extension. As well, the inside of the barrel is of a smaller inner diameter than other barrels, increasing the chance of dart drag within the barrel and lowering ranges.[1]
As with many Nerf products from the 2015/2016 lineup, the Nerf logo is only seen on one side of the blaster, with the other side being completely bare of any additional paint details.

Trivia[]
- A similar, silencer-like barrel extension was packaged with both the N-Strike and N-Strike Elite Spectre REV-5.
- This, along with the IonFire barrel extension, are the smallest detachable Nerf-brand barrel extensions.
- The variant packaged with the Stormcharge has slightly smaller faux vent holes, as well as the grooves near the muzzle being smaller, and the entire red-orange front piece being smoother. There is also a tiger stripe pattern molded on the blue part of the muzzle.

The barrel is pretty short so it likely won't have a significant effect, but I still would have preferred the wider faux barrel for practically no effect.”
