A clip or magazine well (mag well for short) is a component found on blasters that feed darts or other ammunition in through detachable clips or magazines. As its name suggests, it is where the clip or magazine is loaded into the blaster.
Details[]
For the wiki's rule on the usage of the word "clip", see Nerf Wiki:Manual of Style.
- For the purposes of this article, the term "clip" will be used as a blanket term for follower-assisted feeding devices and used in place of "magazine"; the information below mostly corresponds to magazine wells as well.
A clip well is an opening in a blaster that allows clips to be inserted into it. While some clips fit into the well and stay in place due to a friction fit and are removed by force, others are locked in place by a mechanism that requires a "clip release button" to be pressed in order to remove said clip.
Some clip wells have enough of a loose fit that allows a clip to drop freely away from the blaster when the clip release is pressed, rather than manually removed by hand. This makes for faster reloads, but increases the risk of damaging the clip or losing it altogether. Other wells, such as that found on the Nerf RIVAL Hypnos XIX-1200, may have a spring ejector that speeds up the removal process.
Other uses of clip wells[]
Clip wells are often used in clip storage accessories to store clips, such as the Longshot CS-6's integrated shoulder stock, the detachable Storage Stock, or the tactical rail Clip Holder. Some of these accessories use a clip release button to hold in the clip, but most of them use friction to hold the clips in.
Modification[]
A popular modification of clip wells is to add a funnelled piece to the entrance of the clip well, which makes inserting clips easier. These modified clip wells are often called "flared clip wells" or "flared magazine wells". Some blasters have built-in flared wells, such as the Game Face Blasters Trion.
