The Challenger Football is a Nerf football that was released in 2004.

Details

The Challenger Football is a throwable football with an elongated tail, similar to various Koosh Vortex balls. Its unique feature is its ability to provide a number score based on how well it is thrown. This is achieved through the use of its tail, which spins freely as it soars through the air. An internal mechanism counts the number of rotations it makes and displays a number on a small display built into the football. A button next to this read-out will reset the number back to zero.

The counting mechanic notably only works when thrown with the right hand, due to the direction in which the tail spins for the counter.
