FoldingBipod

The Folding Bi-Pod, an example of a Nerf tactical rail bipod.

A bipod, or bi-pod, is an accessory rail accessory that allows a blaster to be rested on a solid surface for increased stability when firing.

Details[]

Bipods have two supporting legs that allow a blaster to be planted on a solid surface such as a table, ledge, or the ground so that the user can fire their blaster from a stationary position. Bipods reduce the motion of a blaster by adding a point of contact to the surface it is rested on, increasing stability and also reducing fatigue on the user since they do not need to carry the front end of the blaster with their off-hand. Most bipods are foldable or collapsible. Bipods can also be used as display stands for blasters.

Like grips, the attachment mechanisms of bipods are usually not very stable and can cause the attachment to wobble from side-to-side, but this is less of an issue with bipods as the user is not actively griping the attachment.

Some blasters have built-in bipods that cannot be removed.

Tripods[]

A tripod or tri-pod is similar in functionality to a bipod but has three legs instead of two. However, tripods often carry a majority of the blaster's weight, if not all of the weight, and so their attachment mechanisms are often proprietary and sturdier than accessory rails. Tripods also have a multi-axial swivel at the top to allow the blaster to be aimed from side to side and also up and down.

History[]

The Longshot CS-6 was the first blaster to feature a built-in bipod.

The first detachable Nerf bipod was the 2010 Pop-Out Bipod released with the Stampede ECS, which doubled as a grip.

The first tripod was the 2008 Vulcan tripod, released with the Vulcan EBF-25.

Trivia[]

  • Tactical rail bipods can be attached to the sides of blasters to rest against the side of a wall, but this is usually very impractical.
  • Bipods can also be used as rudimentary grips by unfolding one of the legs and using it as a grip.
